Physical Facilities is responsible for the maintenance of 87 conveyances, including 53 hydraulic elevators, 26 traction (cabled) elevators, 5 wheelchair lifts, 2 dumbwaiters and 1 stage lift.

Basic maintenance service is provided by KONE Elevator and is closely monitored by Physical Facilities at all times. There is at least one State certified elevator mechanic on campus during normal UCSB working hours. Each elevator is routinely examined at least once a month by a State certified mechanic. The elevators are inspected and permitted annually by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Elevator, Ride and Tramway Unit. Public safety is never compromised and is always our number one concern. is a Senior Craft Lead, is certified as a Qualified Elevator Inspector with NAESA International, and is a Certified Competent Conveyance Mechanic with the DOSH Elevator, Ride and Tramway Unit.
